Hi Vis Vests - FAQs
What's the difference between a standard safety vest and a 4-in-1 reversible vest?
JB’S Hi-Vis Safety Vest 6HVSV and Bisley Taped Hi Vis Safety Vest BV0341T are a single-layer hi-vis vest, worn over your existing layers. The DNC Hi-Vis Cross Back D/N 4-in-1 Zip Off Sleeve Reversible Vest 3994 is a different category of garment entirely, a polyester/PVC shell on one side and a polar fleece lining on the other, with zip-off sleeves so it converts between a vest and a jacket.
If you just need visibility over a uniform, a standard vest does the job. If your crew is outdoors through changing weather in one shift, the 4-in-1 earns its extra bulk.
Why do some of our vests use a quick-release front instead of a zip?
The JB’S Hi-Vis Zip Safety Vest 6DNSZ uses a standard zip front. Other styles in this range use a quick-release or hook-and-loop front fastening instead. Around moving machinery or conveyor lines, a quick-release front is the safer choice, since it's designed to give way if the vest snags, rather than holding a zip closed and pulling the wearer with it.
If your team works near machinery with entanglement risk, check the closure type before ordering, not every hi-vis vest is built the same way here.
What makes our rail and Vic Roads vests different from a standard hi-vis vest?
Jb’s Australia Rail Safety Vest 6DVTV and Hi Vis Vic Roads Safety Vest SW92 are built to the specific compliance requirements of rail corridors and Vic Roads worksites, which can go beyond a standard AS/NZS hi-vis rating.
If your crew works on or near rail or road authority land, check with us that the vest matches that specific authority's requirements rather than assuming a generic hi-vis vest will be accepted on site.
Are the printed staff and event vests in this collection rated as PPE?
Not necessarily, and it's worth checking before you order. The JB’s Printed Hi Vis Safety Vest 6DNSV (Staff) and Safety Marshal Printed Vest are built for identification at events, in retail, or for crowd and access control, not for on-site head protection or traffic-control PPE compliance. If you need a vest for genuine worksite safety, choose from our dedicated safety vest range instead; if you need one for staff visibility at an event or in a customer-facing role, the printed range is the better fit.
